Adoption FAQs
New Beginnings Shepherd Rescue is a volunteer based organization. It is because of the incredible volunteers, adopters, and donors that we are able to save as many lives as we do! We appreciate all of you in supporting our mission. Our adoption process is set up to be streamlined as best as we can and in such a way that we hope to find the best possible match for each available dog. It is our hope that these FAQs, adoption information and website overall provide as many answers as possible to your questions. Thank you for choosing to rescue and thank you for considering New Beginnings Shepherd Rescue!
I WOULD LIKE TO MEET AN ADOPTABLE DOG ON YOUR WEBSITE
Before you meet one of our wonderful adoptable dogs, we will try to get to know our applicants as well as possible, whether it be through email or via the telephone, this will give us a good idea of the right family for our dogs and the right dog to match your family and lifestyle.
If you are serious about an individual pet on our website, please read about our Adoption Process, and complete an application. Upon approval, a private meet and greet may be scheduled.
We do not schedule private meetings until you have applied and been approved to meet the individual pet.
HOW LONG IS MY APPLICATION VALID
Applications are considered current for 6 months.

WHAT DETERMINES YOUR ADOPTION FEES
Many things go into how we have determined our donation fees...
Adoption donations directly help to support our organizations expenses such as the costs associated with saving dogs in high kill shelters, boarding fees until transport can be arranged, transportation from any out of state shelters, food, medical care, flea and tick preventatives, heartworm tests, treatments and preventatives, insurance, and other supplies for the dogs in our care. Adoption donations help our rescue continue saving lives!
I LIVE OUTSIDE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, WILL YOU CONSIDER ME
We know that loving homes are all over, including outside of the South Carolina area. Adult dogs will be considered on a case by case basis. We cannot determine if we will make an exception unless you complete an adoption application. Please know we do not ship dogs under any circumstance.
I HAVE A VACATION COMING UP, CAN I ADOPT NOW AND PICK UP LATER
If you have a vacation coming up within the next month, please do not apply until after you return. We cannot hold pets in rescue, since most of our dogs are saved from high kill shelters, the time these dogs have is painfully limited...which means that if we kept your dog while you were on vacation, another shelter dog could loose his life because we didn't have that open spot to offer him/her. Additionally, new pets need time to adjust to their new homes, surroundings, people, and routine. So even if you were able to get a pet sitter or daycare arranged, it is not in the best interest of newly-adopted pets to add another dramatic change to their lives in such a short time span.
MY CURRENT PET IS NOT SPAYED/NEUTERED
We prefer to adopt to homes that share the same values as we do. We find homes for unwanted and neglected dogs everyday, who are normally the product of the owners not spaying or neutering their dogs. We do understand there are certain circumstances that people choose not to alter their pet (heart condition and can't be sedated, etc)....in these cases we will need verification from your vet that there is a reason your pet is not altered. If your pet is not altered for a specific reason, you must specify that for consideration in your application. However, it is our preference that all pets in the home are altered if it is medically safe.
I AM LOOKING FOR A SPECIFIC LOOK/KIND OF DOG, CAN YOU JUST SEND ME A LIST OF ONES THAT MATCH
Unfortunately we do not have the resources to provide this service. We are a volunteer-based organization, and need to utilize the time and efforts for those applicants who are ready to adopt a specific dog. We recommend keeping an eye on our website, filling out an adoption application immediately
I AM A PREVIOUS ADOPTER, DO I NEED TO REAPPLY
If your address, phone, job, etc. has changed then you should fill out a new adoption application. If you have adopted within the last 6 months, you may email us directly to check on your application status. Be sure to note on your new application that you have adopted from us before.
