Hey
Thought I'd give an update on Sabine. She is an amazing girl, and has already won us over completely. She and Sasha get along great. They were lying together in the back of the car as though they had been living together all along. She is showing the attributes of a true thief, and Meg and I have begun 'baby proofing' many things, mostly those that involve food.

As soon as we got her home, we of course introduced her to the boys. Stryker (the Great Dane) took her in stride, and seemed pleased to see her. Not so with Gizmo (the Border Collie). However, Sabine let him know what manners were expected of him and he has settled down a great deal.

Sabine settled right in. After the introductions, we had a marathon brushing session (one which Sasha insisted on taking part of). So an hour later, with a trash bag full of Sabine's hair (I'm serious, and will send a picture), I decided it was time for her bath. She needed some encouragement into the bathroom, but after I dragged her in, and had Meg help me force her into the tub, she was an absolute angel. She even started to enjoy the bath towards the end. Afterwards, I let her run around and explore the house while she dried off. It should be noted that she was disappointed to find that the room which holds the dog food is off limits.

Sabine was wonderful with our roommates, who now feel the same way about her as we do. She ran right up and said hello, allowing herself to be petted and loved on.

She really seems to like Sasha. The two of them are very funny together, as Sasha is clearly the lady of the house, while Sabine appears to be the wild, fun one. Sasha is the only dog Sabine has offered to play with so far. This is in a way unfortunate, as we have a strict leash policy for Sasha, even in the back yard (you will recall our stories of her escapes and escapades). However, Stryker has made several friendly overtures, but Sabine is not quite ready to play with him yet. Gizmo remains aloof, but he is the tough nut to crack, so we are not worried. It took him several weeks to accept Sasha, and we expect no different with Sabine.

Who, by the way is currently lying on the kitchen floor behind me, taking a well deserved nap. Once we left your place, we went directly to PetSmart to buy her a leash, a collar, dog bowls, and two toys (both kong brand, one a frisbee and the other a dental chew, she seems interested in neither, any suggestions?), from there we left her and Sasha for a little bit while Meg and I went into Target to buy the baby-proofing stuff I mentioned earlier. I had to run right back to the car to confiscate the bag of treats we had bought (and hidden in the car, Sabine found them in about ten seconds) but they were fine after that. She has had a long day i think, but it's not over. Meg went out for a bit, to do girl stuff I guess, but when she gets back, we are taking Sabine and Sasha on a walk around the neighborhood.

I cannot express our gratitude for allowing us to take this dog. She is absolutely amazing, and we have already fallen head over heels for her. Thank you so much, and oh, I promise some pictures of her later tonight, having fully dried off and been brushed a second time (she desperately needs it, and we are more than happy to oblige).

Thank you so much

Andrew and Meg
