This is Rusty. Rusty was adopted from New Beginnings Rescue to a fine young man that chose to pursue a career in advanced dog training. Lee and Rusty enrolled in a school in Texas for training, and they were there for a few months. Currently, Lee and Rusty are in North Carolina undergoing further in-depth training in narcotics detection, SAR, and other things. Lee has agreed to keep us posted on their progress, and we will be setting up a webpage just for Lee and Rusty and their journey together. Please check back frequently for updates on this "Dynamic Duo".

Hi, my name is Lee. I want to tell you a little about how I found a great friend and partner with hopes that it will help you in your search as well.
I left the Army last year after spending 9 years in the service with 4 tours to combat zones. While there I had the chance to transport and provide security for explosive detection dogs and their handlers. When it was time for me to leave the Army I knew I needed to find a career and so after a little thought I decided to become a professional canine trainer and that is what led me to Rusty. Working with the k-9 handlers in Iraq got me interested in this field.
I had found a good school in Texas ( www.schoolfordogtrainers.com <http://www.schoolfordogtrainers.com/> ) to get me started and was ready to go but I had to have a dog to take with me and this dog had to help me get through months and months of school. I looked and looked at dogs and found many nice dogs but when I saw Rusty I made my mind up that I wanted him and I have never regretted the choice.
Rusty and I headed off to Texas and got started in school. In order for me to graduate the course we had to train in agility, basic obedience, house manners, crate and kennel training and many many other things in that line. It was a hard and tough course but Rusty and I made it through and I am proud to say that I am now a Pro canine trainer and I am furthing my education in N.C.( www.tarheelcanine.com <http://www.tarheelcanine.com/> ) and specializing in scent detection ( narcotics, explosives and search and rescue ). I'm not using Rusty for my current school as this school provides dogs for us to learn from but Rusty is still here with me by my side and keeps me company. He has been a wonderful dog and great addition to my family and I am also very proud of him for helping me graduate school.
I hope that you will read this short story and maybe do something similar. It has been a very rewarding field and I am having a great time working with these wonderful dogs. I would love for anyone that wants to to contact me if they are interested in entering this field and I will tell them even more about Rusty and I going through school together. Mostly I hope you will stop and take a look at these wonderful dogs and passably give one a home.
